GIMP Tutorial: Understanding Layers.
How does this apply to Digital Scrapbooking?
Digital Scrapbooking is all about layers. As a matter of fact, if the software did not supported layers capabilities we wouldn't be able to use it for our Digital Scrapbooking. Each digital scrapbook element becomes a layer and you can move, resize, copy, paste, crop, and basically modify those layers around your page as you please to make the perfect layout.
Let take a look at the image below:
Now, take a look at the Layers Tool Box. The orders in which they are displayed in the Layers Tool box is the same: The Green box is on top of the blue circle and the blue circle is on top of the pink rectangle.
[If you don't see the Layers Tool box do this: Go to the Menu "Dialogs" -> Create New Dock -> Layers, Channels & Path]
Now lets say that you want to put the Pink Rectangle on top of all of the layers.
[The arrow is highlighted in red in the bottom of the Layers Tool box for better visibility]
And your image should look like this now:
And your Layer Tool box should look like this, which is exactly the same order:
Just a few more layer tips:
Clicking on this button will duplicate the selected layer.
Clicking on this button will bring the selected layer down.
Clicking on this button will create a new empty layer.
Clicking on this button will bring the selected layer up.
Clicking on this button will deleted the selected layer.
Now instead of green boxes and blue circles, image you have pictures, tags and embellishments.
Wasn't that easy? Have questions ? Post them on our GIMP Digital Scrapbooking Forum:
