GIMP Tutorial: Understanding Layers.How does this apply to Digital Scrapbooking? Digital Scrapbooking is all about layers. As a matter of fact, if the software did not supported layers capabilities we wouldn't be able to use it for our Digital Scrapbooking. Each digital scrapbook element becomes a layer and you can move, resize, copy, paste, crop, and basically modify those layers around your page as you please to make the perfect layout.
Let take a look at the image below:
Now, take a look at the Layers Tool Box. The orders in which they are displayed in the Layers Tool box is the same: The Green box is on top of the blue circle and the blue circle is on top of the pink rectangle. [If you don't see the Layers Tool box do this: Go to the Menu "Dialogs" -> Create New Dock -> Layers, Channels & Path]
Now lets say that you want to put the Pink Rectangle on top of all of the layers.
[The arrow is highlighted in red in the bottom of the Layers Tool box for better visibility]
And your image should look like this now:
And your Layer Tool box should look like this, which is exactly the same order:
