This is my oldest son- sean and one my favorite pieces of art from him!
In the world of Autism, so much importance is placed on just basic communication. Simple things like affection, eye-contact , and smiles are never taken for granted. My son Seanís journey with Autism has been a long, but steady journey from the non-verbal to what many would consider high functioning. I cherish his ability to tell me things now and to share things through his drawings. He brought this drawing home from school and at first I was confused by it. I asked him why it didnít have any eyes. His response to me was that he drew them big and on top, so that I would be sure to see them. Tears came right to my own eyes. For him to understand the significance of eye contact on that level means that entire new doors have opened up for my son. Although he may still be in special education for now. The future for him is untold and he has limitless opportunities ahead of him. To me this drawing is priceless.
