After following the great instructions on this site on how to round corners using GIMP (I'm in version 2.6.8), I've realised that for whatever reason, the round corners filter doesn't work on any of my images.
I'm using 1-layer images, with no alpha channel, and they're in RGB mode. I can select the round corner filter, and run it (usually with an edge radius of 20 and a blur radius of 15) - but then, nothing happens. The new image it produces is exactly the same as the old image. It doesn't matter if I select "work on copy" or let it run on the original - the script runs, and my image doesn't change. I wanted to see if anyone else has had similar problems with the round corners filters - I know I can round my images using the rounded rectangle selection, but that's not nearly as simple as the round corners filter should be. I'm guessing that there's something simple I'm missing, but I don't know what it is. Suggestions? (Also, I've tried refreshing my script-fu console, but that doesn't fix it either.) Thanks much! |

I think you need to "select" the entire area of the photo, OR a section of the photo, before running the filter tool.
Use the "Rectangle Select Tool" to select the section of the photo. Here is an online tutorial explain this feature: http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/11583.html Let me know if this helped. - Norma |

Here is what I do. Select the layer, run the round corners tool. You should see "little ants" marking the round corners. Now go to "Select" on the top and click on "Invert". Then go to "Edit" and click on "cut". This will cut your layer with the rounded corners. Then you just go to "Layer", click on "Transparency" and then click on "color to alpha". This will let the layer under the one you cut with rounded corners to show through (it will make the areas around the corners transparent in the layer you cut). After you have your layer ready you can scale it to any measurements to fit your LO.
Let me know if this works! This is how I do it. |

Norma,
Ah! Selecting the entire region, like you suggested, in addition to selecting the layer, did the trick. *headdesk* I can't believe I missed something so simple - I swear I've read through the GIMP documentation so many times and somehow missed the obvious. ![]() Thanks so much for your help! And David - thank you, as well. That's the method I've been using, and it works like a pro. Now I can do both methods. ![]() Cheers! Heather |
