A GIMP question from one of our members:
I am a new gimp user and I am having trouble with a technique. I have a rectangular picture that I put a circle frame around it. I would like to delete or erase the remaining part of the picture outside of the frame. When I erase that part it turns white. I would like to see what is behind it instead! I've tried to find the answer on Gimp's help page and I was a little lost. I noticed that you have a lot of users that are familiar with Gimp so I am hoping someone has figured this out already! Thank you so much for your time. - Christie |

I think this is what you need to do:
- Make sure that you start with a page with Fill with "Transparency": File New->Advance Option->Fill with: Transparency. - Select the circle frame mask: Click on its layer->Right Mouse Click -> Alpha to selection (You should see the marching ants around the circle - Inverse the selection so that you can delete the outside of the circle: Select -> Invert - Now start deleting: Select the rectangle layer with the picture. Click on the eraser tool. Delete the outside area of the circle. That's it! - Norma |

I tried this technique but I am on a Mac and my mouse doesn't have a right click. Does anyone know a way around this? Can I choose a mask for "Alpha to selection" another way? Any Mac users out there? Thanks!!! |
