I have a question about masks in GIMP. I am not real familiar with this and would like a little help with it. I have seen some for sale and would like to use them but just don't know how to use them. Than you for the help ladies!!!

From memory I recall having to create a mask layer on the selected photo layer first than copy the purchased/downloaded mask onto it.
This might not be enough help, but will try and get a screenshot or 2 for you ![]() |

Sorry, just a few quick screenshot before heading to work.
Let me know if this helps you. ![]() Select active photo layer > right click > select Add Layer Mask > set mask colour to BLACK Your photo is now hidden behind the black layer mask, this is good - do not PANIC. ![]() Open downloaded mask ![]() Right click > select Alpha to Selection > select Fill with WHITE forground Color > Copy ![]() Change to your layout ensure that the Mask is selected, it should be outlined with a white border > Paste > using Anchor Floating Layer button on Layers dialog next to the trash can. Now your photo is cropped to your mask without cutting your photo. You can use the Scale tool to size the mask to better fit your photo. Last edited by buttner-jenkins : 09-17-2008 at 02:12 PM. |

I'm glad you got it to work. Once you are happy with you GIMP project layout, just flatten and save as jpg and upload on your blog. hope that helps, ![]() |
