How do I make my own elements with Gimp?

Hello, new to this place and learning sooo much.. I would like to learn how to make my own elements, and I am still searching for a tutorial...Do you know of one that will be of use to me? Please let me know...

Perhaps you can be more specific about what sort of elements you would like to make?

I have these small calendar pages that I would like to use as tags in a layout...scanned them, erased the white b/g, saved as png, now has a blk background...I am so confused...looking for a few tutorials...
