Default Scaling images

In gimp, if I were to scale an image smaller, and then later scale it larger, it would be blurry and pixelated. Is there any way to prevent this?

I imagine in the course of scrapbooking, one may want to resize elements on layers several times. I'm worried that each resize (scale) will result in degraded quality?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this will help you. When the scale pop-up window appears ensure that the resolution is at 300 ppi. Also ensure that the original photo or element layer you are scaling is also at 300 ppi resolution. From memory I think you can set the resolution in the Preferences.
Scaling something that was originally small to very larger will result in loss of resolution though.

Hello gdw2 and welcome to our site!!

The "cubic" interpolation option under the scaling options, preserves the highest quality when rescaling.

Also, is always best to save a copy of the original elements in their original format and not modify those.

Only modify the copy that you are using when creating the layout and save it as part of the layout and not as its own element. In order words, don't save the modify element over the original.
