Our next tutorial is:

How to use brushes using The GIMP -introduction to brushes

There is so much that can be done with brushes so I'm thinking to create a series of GIMP brushes tutorials of about three tutorials for now.

So stay tuned....

I'll certainly be interested in the brushes - thanks. I haven't looked at brushes for the GIMP yet. I know with the Photoshop ones, they can be quite large but in PSP (at least V7), they are really quite small and can't be resized very well. I'll have a think about what else I'd like to be able to do ... I haven't had a lot of time with the GIMP but am getting a very good spec laptop soon so will probably want to play lots then!

How about this for our next tutorial?
I'm thinking on making a brush tutorial on how to create the word art on this page using brushes?

Thanks!

Exclamation Re: What type of GIMP Tutorials would you like to see next?

HELP PLEASE! I need EXTRACTIONS, EXTRACTIONS, EXTRACTIONS!!! lol

Seriously, Im a new gimp user, but I know quite a bit of photoshop. Using newest gimp 2.4, I think? I've followed tuts on "intelligent scissors" extractions, and was able to follow them up until they say "connect the final point to the first point you made, now click just inside the perimeter to create a selection". Ummm, ok. Did that, and all of the points I made surrounding whole object just dissapeared. Sheesh. I need a tut that takes me all the way till I'm looking at my extracted object on canvas with no background....or even past that to how to add new background, though that seems somewhat selfexplanatory. I've also used the "Convert color to alpha" selection under color menu to begin extractions from a simple few color background. But seriously, nothing I'm using is really successful. I need a few tuts going over different methods to extract things from background in gimp, along with when the tools or tuts work best (ie: this tut is most successful with a major contrast between object and background).

And if you think about it, extractions are the major thing we do in scrap, whether creating elements from jpgs, or extracting people from photos, they're pretty important and theres very very few followable tuts online regarding Gimp extractions. I've looked at 2 sites with combination of 180 gimp tuts between them, and there were 2 tuts regarding extraction, and neither one of them were for most recent version with the new tools. I'm desperate here, can you tell? lol

If you do end up doing some extraction tuts, I'd appreciate it if you could email me to please let me know. I'm not sure how to subscribe to thread (new to your site). And I'd GLADLY reward you for your time and effort with some new commercial use overlays and lace/bows I'm working on. That way you get some new toys to design with, and I get major time saving tuts, because totally manual extraction is taking me forever! lol And I'm working with a lot of vintage lace bits, so you can imagine the complexity! lol

Thanks so much for reading my request/rant... Unfortunately, my being forced to switch to gimp happens to correspond to me creating my first portfolio of products to submit to scrap stores and find a home for my designs, and the lack of good extraction methods is making everything take 10x longer to design.

Wishing you the best..and thanks so much for this scrap gimp tut area! You guys are one of the only boutiques to cover gimp tuts at all, and its HIGHLY appreciated on my end!

PS>>>I have links to a couple of really great "brush" tuts in gimp, from how to make your own, how to install, how to use brushes, etc...so if you'd like them to provide here for your forum readers, let me know. A great place to find gimp brush/texture tuts is deviantart dot com.

Sorry it took me this long to replay... someone the post got missed in my email...

So you need some extractions tutorials, ha? Extracting photos would be OK? I can try that...

I actually extracted some flowers at some point...

From you post I think you are very close... I will try it again to remember the last steps.

Thanks!
