Help - how to install GIMP plug-ins in Windows?

To all you talented GIMP goddesses out there - I have a question: I have downloaded a bunch of GIMP plug-ins but they are just sitting there in my Downloads folder...how do I install them in my PC (operating system Windows XP) and then how do I access them from GIMP to use them?
I've tried reading some tutorials but they are made for either GIMP geeks or people much much smarter than me.
Help! (please?)
