How do I install GIMP on my computer?

Updating this page - 7/16/2017.

GIMP has improve significantly since it was upload to our SITE. So, for now, I will just give you the link where you can download the latest copy:

GIMP PROGRAM:
https://www.gimp.org/downloads/

GIMP TUTORIALS:
https://www.gimp.org/tutorials/list-all.html
https://www.gimp.org/tutorials/

GIMP HELP:
Scroll down on the download page to download the help pages:
https://www.gimp.org/downloads/

OTHER RESOURCES:
There is a lot of resources on the internet, but sometimes they are not as complete or they are not based on the latest version which makes them hard to follow. Sometimes you just can't find information on the specific tools or items that you need to use or worse, you missed out on using some great tools just because no body has written a tutorial or explain it on their blog. Because of that, I recommend that you just purchase a book. The electronic version are the most affordable, will increase your knowledge and will save your time. Time you can actually spend digital scrapbooking!

Amazon also has some great GIMP Books for a very reasonable prices:

GIMP Books

My Favorite is this one:
GIMP - The Complete Guide

If you have questions, post them in this forum or visit the GIMP.

Enjoy!:flowers10:

Re: How do I install GIMP on my computer?

Ummmmmm how do I use the texting feature?
All I got was a small box with lines-- when I attempted to use the arrows as per instructions-- my program stalled and I lost everything as I had to to use the shift-alt-delete to exit the program.
I had my texting set to 18 -- so I should have seen something????
What did I do wrong????
Thanks for your time

not sure what version of GIMP you are on, or what text tutorial/instruction you were using. Also make sure that the new text layer is not below another element layer or Paper background layer as it would be hidden by it. So if you can see the text layer you have created in the layers dock, then simply move it up the layer stack to show itself. Hopefully that was clear enough.

Re: How do I install GIMP on my computer?

Oh Goodness,
I do apologize-- I didn't give you enough info from my first desperate plea-- I'm so sorry.....
Ok I have version gimp -2.6.6-i686-setup
and the tut that I was following was
Gimp Tut: Creating Your First Digital ScrapBook Layaout--
I was doing fine until I got to Adding Text to your Layout....
I made it to the Text tool options menu and my puter stalled completely-
soooo I am playing with it again--
I had read a post saying I needed to maybe download font-- is that true? Because I didn't do that-- so that very well could be the problem......
Thank you for your response.

Re: How do I install GIMP on my computer?

I haven't upgraded yet to 2.6.6 yet, still on 2.6.2 not that it should matter. My GIMP is running under windows and neither should that. I would have thought even if you hadn't downloaded any fonts yet, the standard windows fonts are available by default. How about you do another simple test, create a new LO, bottom layer your paper background, with just a text layer above the paper background layer. Lets try and keep it simple to see if this still crashes your GIMP (but hopefully NOT!) :)

I completed my very first page-- using the elements from the Krazy Mary challenge...
I am so proud of this -- I did it all on Gimp....
So where do I post the picture?
And I am sorry for being such a pain....
Thank you for your wonderful patience with me...... It's appreciated.

Re: How do I install GIMP on my computer?

Toot TOOT, well done. Look forward to seeing your 1st creation. Just remember to save your gimp file to .jpg or .png (I use .jpg) and ensure that image size is under 200k. Then when you are logged on and in the Gallery you should see an "Upload Photos" option appear (in the grey horizontal bar) just about under neath the "Welcome, username" box, select and follow the instructions.
I hope that wasn't too brief in instructions :)
