Article:  Ideas to Inspire

 "Ideas to Inspire"
By Donna Phillips

Do you have tons of digital files stored on your hard drive that you've used for one or two layouts and are now no longer sure what to do with?

Well, rest assured that you are probably not alone; however, I challenge you to open those dusty files and take a look at the possibilities that lie within them!  The colorful digital papers and elements are ideal for creating greeting cards, recipe cards, note pads, book covers, bookmarks, party invitations and so much more!  Not only do these items make practical and useful gifts, but any gift you make yourself is a gift from the heart and who doesn't love that?  To get you started, I've created a very basic 4x6 recipe card and a 5x7 patriotic greeting card using the papers and elements from the "Americana" collection.  The front of the card could easily function as a frame on a layout, but it also makes a great card face and leaves you room to add a special photograph!  There is also a free set of bookmarks currently available in the SgD store that were created using the "Americana" collection so be sure to grab those for a little inspiration before they are gone.  Remember to post your creations in the SgD Gallery - inspire someone else with your creativity!

What our Members are saying

This month, we introduce a new fun activity in our digital scrapbooking forum:

We Ask... You Tell Us

and you did!! Thanks to everyonoe for sharing your wonderful comments!

What has been your favorite event or Photo to Scrap?

You're making us pick? lol My favourite pictures unfrotunately are the ones that turn out great.. it's hard to scrap the other ones, thankfully I've become a better photographer, but the old ones still need to be scrapped dispite their quality. I actually like a variety of subjects though, old, new, young kids, babies, adults, serious, goofy... it just keeps things exciting and fresh. [nifty]

I love to scrap layouts that include children's photos - probably because I find those the easiest to put together. Sometimes I struggle with getting everything laid out just perfectly when the photo includes only adults. [Pixel Princess]

I love to scrap everyday moments. I scrap just about everything, but it's the everyday moments & events that people tend to think aren't as important & tend to be forgotten as you get older. I want to capture those moments for my kids. The piling up on Daddy in the recliner, the digging in the garden, the kids getting my Mama & Daddy's bed when they are supposed to be in their own beds...those moments that make me laugh. [Kari]

Right now I love to scrap my 2yr old grandson. I take silly everyday photos for layouts. I'm also taking older pictures and ones that aren't the best quality and doing a photo mask with them and extractions. I'm having fun doing funky, fantasy lo's with these photo's. [cruisengoddess]

I don't really have a favourite. At least I don't think I do. I enjoy scrapping all of the photos, although I guess looking back, my favourite pages to read over and over again are the ones that have a story with it - something funny one of the kids has said or done, or one that has a letter from me to them in it. [barbnichols]

I've only really had one "event" per se to scrap... which was my wedding. Though, I do tend to scrap a lot of photos of my nieces... Most of the time, I'd say the kids are my favorite to scrap. [nikkiana]

I enjoy scrapping ALL my photos. It is hard to narrow down. But I would say the easiest ones are our family vacation photos. I love pictures of the kids and vacations are nice to scrap because there is a certain theme. And an end to the album. I feel like I got something accomplished when I complete an album from beginning to end. [jana]

While I agree with everyone's opinions before me my favorite thing to scrap are classic moments, clean lines filled with color such as weddings, anniversaries, babyshowers, you get the picture. [eclecticdiva]

I love to scrap pictures of my g'kids. My very favorite so far is a picture of my youngest g'son taking a bite of an apple during his first apple picking outing.[spartica]

I really like to scrap the flowers in my garden!!! Oh.. forgot.. did I also mention my kids? Oh, one more, trips to unusual places. In summary, I love to scrap anything that is related to me and my family. I also like to scrap when I am more relaxed, and not trying to be perfect. The main thing is to put the pictures arranged in a page, remember things to journal, and enjoy the results. [myluco]

Photos of my kids growing up & changing or family all together are my favorites, but I'll scrap anything that strikes my fancy.[shellshok]

I agree with the people who say kids - lately it's babies because I have 2 new great grandchildren - it's just easy because they're always cute and with the cute outfits and faces a theme always comes to mind.[brendam]

I especially love scrapping my children life and our holidays.[rainbow7203]

That's a tough question -- I suppose one ones I like the most are baby photographs -- especially the ones I took when my Grandson was born. To me they tell a very emotional story without it being necessary to add tons of journaling to spell it out.[Lottiefla]

I love to scrap just everyday photos of my life. Yeah, I do the big stuff (holidays, vacations, etc) but I have to include those wacky photos of your life in general.[RealRach]

I'd say vacations and my kids school events are the items I scrap the most.[cla]

My favorite event to scrap would be the day to day moments of both of my girls! [jburkhart]

I love to scrap photos of my grandson! I also like to scrap photos of our trips or special family events.[skinnerfam_48236]
